The area of ​​Nišava, Pirot and Toplica regions offers exceptional opportunities for investors. This is one of the most attractive locations with the biggest potential for industrial and logistical development in Serbia. Under level of development, in the territory covered by RDA South, except for the cities of Niš and Pirot, other local self-governments belong to the fourth and fifth group of development, which increases the level of incentives for implementation of investment projects in these local self-governments. Favorable local incentives and competitive operational costs, like moderate tax rates, lower salaries, labor costs and utility taxes should also be mentioned, as well as active local self-governments at the service of investors. The Free Zone in Pirot, which is expanding to Dimitrovgrad and Babušnica – two more municipalities in the Pirot district, is also one of the best in Europe and the world in terms of  doing-business environment.

The University of Niš with 13 faculties represents a strong intellectual basis for development, and in the last decade IT sector has been recognized as an area with the greatest potential for development of MSMEs. Over a thousand companies and entrepreneurs in IT sector make Niš “the silicon valley” of this part of Serbia and the center of “outsourcing” services.

The region represents a significant raw material base of agricultural products, primarily fruit, and Toplica district is widely known for the production of plums, cherries, berries etc. The slopes of Stara and Suva Planina, Jastrebac, Kopaonik and Radan favor development of organic livestock and farming, medicinal plants and forest fruits and represent excellent potential for development of rural tourism.
